Routine Gynecological Care
Routine gynecological care includes having regular, scheduled examinations, even when you are not having any type of symptoms, and screening tests.
Screening tests include checking for disorders (also done before symptoms are present) that can be prevented or cured if found in the early stages.
Many women expect not only gynecologic health care but general medical care as well. This could include screening for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, depression, and substance abuse. A gynecologic evaluation should be scheduled every year starting around age 13 +. A pelvic exam is normally not done before the age of 21 unless there is a medical problem such as pelvic pain, irregular periods etc.
A woman should choose a gynecologist that she feels comfortable with discussing sensitive topics including birth control, sex, menopause, and pregnancy.
Gynecologic care is a vital part of women’s health. Don’t neglect it.
